Financial literacy advocate named Rising Woman of Western Sydney

A PASSIONATE advocate for improving financial literacy among young Australians has been named the recipient of the 2027 Rising Women of Western Sydney Scholarship.

Social entrepreneur Yasmine Turner received the honour at a leadership forum in Parramatta, recognising her contribution to the community and potential as a future leader.

Delivered through a partnership between City of Parramatta and the Parramatta Eels, the scholarship supports young women making a positive impact across Western Sydney.

Ms Turner is the founder of My Financial Future and its FinReady program. These programs equip young Australians with practical financial skills covering budgeting, saving, debt management, superannuation and informed financial decision-making.

She said the scholarship would provide an opportunity to expand the program’s reach across Parramatta and Western Sydney.

“Western Sydney is full of talented, resilient and ambitious people,” Ms Turner said.

“I’m grateful for the support of the City of Parramatta and Parramatta Eels, and I look forward to using this opportunity to give back to the community that has shaped me.”

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said Ms Turner demonstrated the strength of community-led leadership.

“Yasmine is arming the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions and build brighter futures,” Cr Zaiter said.

Parramatta Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said the scholarship recognised women making a genuine difference through leadership, determination and service.

“We’re proud to partner with the City of Parramatta on a program that invests in the next generation of female leaders,” he said.

The scholarship is open to women aged 18 to 28 with a strong connection to the Parramatta local government area.

Ms Turner will receive a $15,000 cash scholarship, an internship with the Parramatta Eels and a Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue leadership course valued at $13,000.
