Local students on Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship

AMARIAH Tamaro from Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta and Stella White from St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas in Parramatta is one of 18 students across the state to be awarded a NSW Government scholarship to travel to Greece on an immersive military history tour.

Amariah Tamaro and Stella White will join Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship (PAMS) students from all over the state to tour sites of major significance to Australia’s war history.

Students will deepen their understanding of Australia’s role in the Second World War on the 85th anniversary of the Greek and Crete campaigns of 1941.

NSW Minister for Veterans David Harris said: “the tour will be a deeply meaningful experience, offering powerful insight into the bravery and sacrifice of Australians in the Second World War. By visiting important sites in Greece and Crete, these students will help ensure the stories of those who served far from home are preserved with respect.

“As a former school principal, I am proud to see our government supporting young people to learn about Australia’s military history and provide a reminder that the freedoms we have today are a result of the service of our defence personnel.”

Minister Harris and Consul-General of Greece Georgios Skemperis formally welcomed the students at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park on Monday, 6 July.

More than 200 students from 148 NSW government and non-government secondary schools from across NSW applied for PAMS this year. Donna Davis MP, State Member for Parramatta congratulated Amariah Tamaro and Stella White for being selected in the scholarship.

“I would like to congratulate Amariah Tamaro and Stella White for their successful application to this year’s Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship to visit Greece in September.

“This will be a rewarding experience to deepen their understanding of Australians in conflicts on a tour through these significant historical sites. Thank you also to Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta.

St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas for supporting the application and encouraging our community’s students to learn about our military history and to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans.” Donna Davis MP said.

The tour will run in the Term 3 school holidays from 26 September to 8 October 2026. Students will be accompanied by a military historian who will provide insights into our nation’s military past and develop their understanding of the importance of commemoration.
