Genetics could affect diabetes medicine
NEW research supported by Diabetes Australia has found that genetics can influence how effectively diabetes medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro work. Published in Genome Medicine, the study found around 10% of people carry a genetic variant that may reduce the drugs’ effectiveness. Researchers say the findings could lead to more personalised diabetes treatment, helping doctors identify which patients are most likely to benefit from GLP-1 medicines and who may need alternative therapies.
