Research challenges Aspirin value
NEW Monash University research has found that daily low-dose aspirin does not reduce overall cancer incidence in healthy adults aged 70 and over and may increase cancer-related mortality by about 15 per cent. The study followed more than 19,000 Australian and US participants from the ASPREE trial and extension study over 8.6 years. While earlier research suggested cancer prevention benefits in middle age, findings indicate starting aspirin in older age is not recommended without medical advice.
