Abalone compounds good for bowl disease
RESEARCHERS at Brisbane’s Translational Research Institute have found that natural compounds from farmed abalone may help treat Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Preclinical trials showed a 50% reduction in inflammation, comparable to current drugs. The study, backed by Marine Bioproducts CRC, aims to identify the active molecules. Researchers hope to repurpose discarded abalone parts for treatment with fewer side effects, potentially benefiting millions worldwide, including over 100,000 Australians with IBD.
